Short Com has asked comedy experts from their neck of the woods for five shows to check out at the 2016 Ed Fringe.
We asked John Stansfield what acts from Greater Manchester is worth catching at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Phil Ellis: Is Alone Together (But mostly alone)
Up for the first time in three years without the Funz and Gamez group in tow this could be Phil’s best work as he’s been left to do what he wants. Which is always something grotesquely magical.
Jack Evans: Melancholy Poontang
Just the weirdest comedian with a small but very dedicated legion of followers in Manchester. One of my favourite people to watch create. Dark, historically knowledgable and very tall.
Brennan Reece: Everglow
Unfairly dismissed as another handsome twenty something in jeans and a shirt, Brennan sets himself apart with tight writing and some inspired phrasing. One to definitely keep an eye on. And not just because he’s an absolute dreamboat.
The most innoventive show you’ll see this year. Creative comedy at its finest no doubt about to give birth to a bunch of pale imitators.
Kiri Pritchard-McLean: Hysterical Woman
I saw a very rough draft of this show over two years ago and you could see it was something special. Kiri is one of the smartest, quickest comedians around and hopefully this show will let everyone know that.
John Stansfield is the Manchester Comedy Editor for The Skinny and is one half of the team behind comedy and music night, Sham Bodie.
