I am a 29-year-old half-English, half-Pakistani gay woman who is currently working as journalist at a demanding job on the news desk of Mic.com in New York, and who is insane enough to write and perform a one-woman show at the same time.
My show is based on the true-story of a lesbian Tinder date I went on in Karachi while working as a reporter in Pakistan last year. It turned out the date’s father had been recently kidnapped by the Taliban… Which made for light, first-date conversation.
What is the first thing people notice about you?
I crowdsourced this inquisiton amongst my two best friends in a group chat and the following conversation between both of them ensued.
Friend #1: “The first thing I noticed about you was that you were a funny looking white person.” (I look mostly brown.) A minute later: “The first thing people notice about you depends on if you want to sleep with them or not.”
Friend #2: “Yes. And if they want to sleep with you. Both decisions/subconscious gameplans being made simultaneously.”
Friend #1: “It’s about as complex as the Iran nuclear deal.”

Your darkest Fringe secret?
I don’t know yet. I’m not in Edinburgh.
But it will involve a kilt.
