The joke that you loved but no one else did?
“Intonation is very important. I can’t stress that enough.” Gutted – but unfortunately there’s not really time during my show to go into the International Phonetic Alphabet as intensively as I’d like. Next year perhaps.
The joke that worked but you are not so proud that it had?
The ad libs which inevitably totally overshadow your most arduously concocted jokes. Who wants a play on words about Shaun Wright-Phillips in Latin when you can just make stupid faces here and there?
The comedian(s) that made you want to be a comedian?
Watching TV growing up: Steve Coogan, Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce, Peter Cook, Michael Richards as Kramer. Onstage more recently: Colin Hoult, Joseph Morpurgo, Kieran Hodgson, the list could go on for hours.
The last thing that made you cry with laughter?
Father Ted. Whenever it’s on, whichever episode. If you don’t like it, I genuinely consider you an enemy.
