Edinburgh, the Fringe, why bother?
My show’s all about my quest to have an orgasm for the first time. 25 shows in a row is a much higher hit rate than I’d get at any other time of the year.
What have been the nuggets of inspiration behind your show this year?
I started dressing as a sperm pretty early on in the process and seemed to reliably hit the mark so it seemed natural to see if it could last for a full hour. Also, I posted an anonymous survey online which came back with some fascinating results, mainly, what it feels like to orgasm.
Stand-out Fringe moment to date?
An audience member lighting his own hand on fire in the climax of last year’s work in progress. He hasn’t stopped thanking me since.
When you wished a hole had opened up in the ground and swallowed you up?
Same show when a mother refused to take her 6 year old out. Did I mention it’s all about my quest to have my first orgasm?
Your unsung heroes in the industry at current?
Spencer Jones – although he’s rightfully getting a lot of recognition since last year’s show – Tessa Waters who smashes physical comedy into another dimension.
Three shows you must see this Fringe?
Joshua Ladgrove – Dr Neil Portenza – an Australian oddball at the Underbelly – The Establishment are cracking clowns at the Dragonfly – and Lazy Suzan will surely be smashing it again at Pleasance.
The one person you’d love to see your show and why?
I get very intimidated if people whose work I respect come and see mine. So Tim Key would cause a full melt down.
The reason why one should come and see your show?
I’m beautifully honest and scarily stupid about having sex and being human
The one thing in Edinburgh you must do?
Climb Arthur’s Seat, swim in the sea and eat fudge – Ha! that’s three things – you’ve got to grab your pleasures where you can!
Helen Duff’s – Come With Me at the Pleasance That, Pleasance Courtyard, 5.45pm 3-29th August
